Team raise £150,000 for Cancer Research
A HIGHLY-DEDICATED team of people have raised more than £150,000 for Cancer Research Wales to help fund vital and pioneering research.
The Brecon and Sennybridge Committee has been in existence since the 1960s and fundraising for Cancer Research Wales since 2008.
The committee decided that they wanted to redirect their fundraising efforts towards Wales’ indigenous cancer charity to support their world-class research projects.
The committee organises a series of events every year including bag-packing at supermarkets, a Flag Day in July, as well as quizzes and concerts,
Last year, the committee held a successful scrabble evening with supper which raised well more than £1,000 for the charity.
The Brecon Committee, with Eira Jones as chairman, have raised £29,000 since last April and this year has already been full of more fundraising activities, with many more planned before the end of the year.
Jo Copping, who joined the committee in 1983 and has been secretary since 2002, said: “We are proud to support Cancer Research Wales and as a committee we thoroughly enjoy planning and holding all of our fundraising activities to contribute to the amazing work that the charity does to fight cancer in Wales.
“We are a group of all different ages and backgrounds, but we all have a shared passion for fundraising for a charity close to many of our hearts, and we look forward to raising as much money as possible in the next year ahead.”
