Dragons aim to extend run

-

WREXHAM will be looking to extend their unbeaten National League run to five matches when they welcome in-form Hartlepool United to the Racecourse this evening.

Dean Keates’ side, who have also kept clean sheets in their past four matches, had their three-game winning run ended at bottom side Torquay United on Saturday where they were held to a goalless draw.

But the signs are promising for the Dragons who are third in the table and currently just a point behind leaders Dover Athletic.

Next up is a clash with Hartlepool who, after a slow start, are beginning to find their feet in the division and their 1-0 win over high-flying Dagenham & Redbridge at the weekend was their third on the spin having gone through the first six games without one.

Pools, who are bidding to return to the Football League at the first time of asking after relegation at the end of last season, are now managed by Craig Harrison, former RACECOURSE 7.45PM WREXHAM v HARTLEPOOL boss of The New Saints.

Ahead of tonight’s game, Keates said: “Our finishing could have been better at Torquay, but I was pleased we kept a clean sheet and, if we go and win against Hartlepool, then it becomes a good point.

“I think if you look at league table right now – there’s not a lot between the promotion and relegation slots.

“I think it’s six or seven points separating everybody so there will be plenty of twists and turns for the rest of the season.

“Anybody can beat anybody in this division – it’s so tight and it will be tight for the rest of the season and, if all things go right, it will be a good season for us.”

It will also be the first meeting between the sides since January 2007 when Chris Llewellyn’s second half equaliser cancelled out a Richie Barker goal and earned Wrexham a point from a 1-1 draw at the Racecourse.
