Warnock dares to dream after Cardiff’s great start

- Dominic Booth Football writer dominic.booth@walesonline.co.uk

NEIL Warnock takes his highflying Cardiff City to Preston tonight admitting that he might just be starting to dream of a Bluebirds promotion challenge.

Warnock has always played down the ‘P-word’ as he has insisted that it could be out of reach on Cardiff’s budget compared to some of the Championship’s big spenders.

But despite any financial constraints, five wins and a draw to sit unbeaten at the top of the table may just be forcing him to rethink.

Cardiff spent money on just three of their 10 summer recruits, a total outlay of £4million on Lee Tomlin, Danny Ward and Omar Bogle.

But that hasn’t stopped them making a blistering start and it has Warnock dreaming of a record eighth promotion, as he admitted teams will now start to fear the Bluebirds.

“My dream is to get an eighth promotion,” he said.

“I thought it might be a little bit difficult in the circumstances here, because we haven’t got a lot of money. “But we’ve spent nearly £4million and brought in 10 players. We’re more or less underdogs everywhere we go but I guess soon we might not be.” On Cardiff’s unbeaten start to the campaign, he added: “It takes so much pressure off managers.

“I’ve been there where we haven’t had a win in the first six games and it’s so bad.

“The fans, the players, everybody relaxes a little bit more and you can play your game.”
