Ironman pops the marathon question
AFTER a mammoth 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride followed by a full marathon you wouldn’t blame a man for collapsing on the ground at the finish line.
But it wasn’t exhaustion that made 29-year-old Olly Kitching get down on one knee. He decided to take the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend, Danielle Player.
Fitness instructor Olly completed the Ironman Wales 2017 challenge in 13 hours and 33 minutes but paused just short of the finish line to ask Danielle to marry him.
“I wanted to give her a complete surprise,” Olly said.
Danielle, 28, works as an English teacher.
“She just burst into tears,” he said. “It took her a while to say yes.”
