Welsh duo in GB squad
WELSH duo Elinor Barker and Owain Doull have been included in the Great Britain squad for the World Road Cycling Championships in Bergen next week.
Barker will double up in the women’s time trial and road race, while Doull is part of the men’s road race squad at the competition which begins on September 17.
Four-time Tour de France winner and new Vuelta de Espana champion Chris Froome will take part in the road race.
British Cycling’s head coach Iain Dyer said he was “delighted” to see Froome included, adding: “I’m looking forward to seeing him in action on a course which suits his strengths in a 31km route that features a 3.5km climb to a summit finish.
“There are some notable omissions from the squad, such as Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas, which is unfortunate but understandable.
“We are coming to the end of a long season for the road riders and injury and illness becomes inevitable so their decisions to withdraw themselves from selection are respected.”
