THE technology network for Wales, the ESTnet, has announced new appointments to its board to reflect the rapidly evolving nature of the tech sector.
Christian Coates, managing director of software house and technology consultancy Method4. will join IQE’s Chris Meadows as “co-chair” of the ESTnet.
Mr Coates said: “With our technology industry experiencing major growth and being fundamental to the Welsh economy, this is an extremely exciting time to be taking on the role of co-chair for the ESTnet.
“We have a diverse dynamic network of organisations whose enabling technologies have significant impact on nearly every aspect of the way we all work and live now and in the future. I look forward to working with our stakeholders to highlight and address the challenges facing our industry, supporting the continued growth of our sector and celebrating the excellent work of our members.”
In a move to ensure that its board continues to reflect the diversity of the industry it serves, the organisation has also added two new tech business leaders as co-optees. Nia Davies and Ben Dowding will bring with them expertise in hi-tech electronic design, development and manufacturing.
Ms Davies is managing director of Welshpool-based Davlec Ltd. Mr Dowding is the co-founder and managing director of Flintshirebased electronics and specialist technical consultancy Taylor Dowding Innovation (TDI).
He leads the operational and strategic direction for TDI. Since its founding in 2013, the consultancy has developed revolutionary systems for some of the world’s biggest companies. Recent products include a marine biology research camera, an ATEX-approved portable gas detector, and Scott Sight, an award-winning industry-first system that provides firefighters with an in-mask display linked to a thermal imaging camera.
ESTnet managing director Avril Lewis said: “This announcement marks a significant chapter for the ESTnet and the developing story of the tech sector it serves.
“The newest members of our board demonstrate the diversity of tech businesses that exist across Wales, from exciting new-starts to growing SMEs operating across a range of fields. Their insights will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our industry.
“It is a particular pleasure to have Christian join us as co-chair. He has been involved in the ESTnet since its inception and is a great champion of what we do for the industry. His pas- sion and entrepreneurial spirit will be a fantastic asset for our membership.”
