‘Care-home residents to be forced out of town’
RELATIVES of residents at a seaside town care home say their family members face moving away from a Welsh town for the first time in their lives as a consultation about its future remains open.
The Bodlondeb care home in Aberystwyth has been faced with closure despite huge objections from residents and politicians.
The council says the home, which is not at full capacity, is unviable.
The home has 26 rooms, with only 13 being used, and the council wants to move residents to other homes.
But the relatives of those at the home say that will mean moving many away from Aberystwyth for the first time in their lives.
They say that residents are already being moved from the home while the council-run consultation is still open.
One relative said their family member had accepted she would be moved and had accepted an offer of a room elsewhere.
“It’s pretty obvious they have already made their mind up and decided to close it. Some of the residents have been there for years and it must be so upsetting for those families,” one relative said.
But the council said there were no plans to close the home early.
A Ceredigion Council spokeswoman said: “We are aware that some residents are considering other registered homes due to their own choice and other residents require alternative care provision due to their assessed need.
“Clearly we will support and ensure that the relevant professionals from within the council and across partner organisations are available to support the residents and their families on an individual basis.
“All options are considered and decisions taken in consultation with residents and their families.”
