‘We must be at our best’

SAM Clucas wants Swansea City to take a major step forward against Tottenham to give themselves the best possible chance of making it a hat-trick of memorable triumphs at Wembley.

Since the home of English football was redeveloped, the Swans have been there twice and won twice as they took the spoils in the 2011 Championship play-off final and the 2013 League Cup final.

Few are giving Paul Clement’s men any hope of making it three from three when they face a Tottenham side who have hit their stride in victories over Everton and Borussia Dortmund.

A disappointing performance against Newcastle last time out means the Swans will be firm underdogs against a side they have not beaten away from home in league action in 88 years of trying.

Clucas – who recently joined the club from Hull – knows a repeat could have dire consequences, but has promised a response from the Welsh club.

“People can talk about Spurs’ record at Wembley, but the fact of the matter is that it will not be a factor unless we can produce a much better performance against Newcastle,” said the midfielder.

“If we play the same way again it will not be enough to get anything from the game.

“So it will be difficult, we know that. All 11 of us have to show up.

“If we do that, then we will give ourselves an opportunity to get something from the game.”
