Wrexham aiming to continue good run

-

PRENTON PARK TRANMERE v WREXHAM 3pm WREXHAM will be bidding to stretch their unbeaten run in the National League to seven games today when they rock up at Prenton Park for their derby clash with Tranmere Rovers.

Dean Keates’ side have conceded just one goal in their last six outings – that have yielded a decent return of three wins and three draws – and certainly look hard to beat.

However, despite that, they have only netted once in their last three at the other end of the pitch and, with nine goals scored, only two other sides have scored less than Wrexham over the first 11 games of the season.

The Dragons are currently ninth and only two points off leaders Aldershot Town in what is still an incredibly-tight division with just three points separating the top 12 teams.

Tranmere, in 17th, are five points behind Wrexham and will no doubt be looking to use the derby clash to kick-start their stuttering start to the campaign that has seen them pick up just three wins in the league so far.

Ahead of today’s game, Wrexham boss Keates (pictured above) said: “It will be a massive test.

“Obviously they haven’t started how they wanted to, but the league is that tight they will know one or two wins put together and it will fire you towards the top – so it is going to be a big test for us and a local derby for the fans as well.”

Keates also hopes the travelling Wrexham fans will prove to be their 12th man once again, saying: “The support has been unbelievable this season, even down at Boreham Wood and at Torquay, we’ve taken decent followings, so all being well we can go and get them the points and they can be happy.”

Rovers were victorious three times against Wrexham last season, winning the corresponding fixture 2-0 and the return meeting 1-0 to complete a league double.

That was Tranmere’s second win of the season at the Racecourse having also won by the same scoreline in the FA Trophy.
