Time to home in on wins

Swans boss Clement challenges team to make Liberty a fortress

PAUL Clement has told his Swansea City side it is time to deliver at the Liberty Stadium as they seek their first home win of the season against Watford today (3pm).

The Swans have lost both Premier League fixtures on home turf so far this season, suffering defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle United without scoring a goal.

It is the first time the Swans have lost their opening pair of home games without finding the net since 1986. Having shown dogged determination in frustrating Tottenham to secure a point at Wembley last weekend, as well as advancing to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup in midweek, Clement’s men are back on home turf to face the Hornets.

And, after the anticlimax of their loss to the Magpies at the Liberty two weeks ago, the head coach wants his side to step up their level of performance ahead of an important sequence of games.

“Football can be strange. Sometimes you can’t see where your next result is coming from and you get it when you don’t expect it and you can lose when you don’t expect it,” said Clement.

“One thing is for sure, we know there’s a run of games coming now where we have to be really competitive.

“We’ve got a chance to put points on the board, but that’s all notes on pieces of paper.

“We’ve got to go out on to the pitch and deliver.

“Newcastle is the reminder of that. If you don’t go out and execute you don’t get the result.”
