- Ruth Mosalski Reporter ruth.mosalski@walesonline.co.uk

TRIBUTES have been paid to two baby brothers who died in a “tragic accident”. Emergency services were called to an address in the Wildmill area of Bridgend at 10.05am on Saturday after reports that two boys of a set of triplets – aged just five months old – were not breathing.

Three ambulances and one ambulance car were sent to the scene.

The boys were taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend but were pronounced dead at the hospital.

Yesterday afternoon, after online speculation about the cause of death, police said that carbon monoxide poisoning was not being investigated.

A senior officer said that there was nothing to believe it was anything but a “tragic accident”.

Detective Inspector Dean Taylor said: “Inquiries are continuing in to what caused the young boys’ tragic deaths. At this moment in time, there is nothing to suggest that carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause. In fact, there is nothing that leads us to believe that this was anything other than a tragic accident.

“Speculation around the cause of the deaths is unhelpful and is compounding the grief of the babies’ family members, who are continuing to be supported by detectives. I would again request that the family’s wish for privacy at this traumatic time is respected.”

Anne Way, 64, of Maes-y-Felin in Wildmill said she had heard sirens and went out into the street to see what happened.

“A fireman came out with the baby lying across his arms and I knew it wasn’t good.

“They were beautiful, stunning little babies,” she added. “They were coming on so well.”

Labour councillor Stuart Baldwin said: “This is a tragic time for the community.

“Two young children have lost their lives and I offer my deepest sympathies to the family.”

Thousands of pounds have already been raised for the family.

The boys’ godmother Siobhan Boyd said she wanted to ease the financial stress on their mother, Sarah.

Siobhan Boyd wrote: “Sadly this morning (Saturday) two of my beautiful godsons passed away.

“I’m trying to raise money for their mother to help with the costs of flowers etc.

“If anybody would like to help hopefully we can raise enough to take the financial stress off Sarah at this difficult time. Thank you all for reading xxx”. Tributes then followed to the boys. Lee Ann Richards wrote: “Thoughts are with the family at this sad time, hope you raise the amount and more needed to give these angels a send off to be proud of xxx”

Paige Plant added: “This is so sad I actually can’t believe it I’m so sorry for the loss of those beautiful little angels.

“My thoughts and love go towards all the people that are distraught because of this incident”.

Susan Stevens added: “Rest in peace little angel, our thoughts are with your family, love and hugs to you all x x x”
