Man ‘tried to drag woman from car’

-

POLICE are investigating an alleged assault in Swansea after a man reportedly attempted to drag a female driver out of a car window in front of her terrified children.

It is the second time in just over a week that a motorist has reportedly been targeted in the city while behind the wheel of a car.

The mum, who has not been named, was driving along the city’s busy Fabian Way on Friday afternoon at 5pm when she claims a stranger grabbed her car keys through an open window and pulled the top half of her body out of the window while she was waiting at traffic lights.

Describing the incident, she said: “I was at the lights just before Parc Tawe and I drove into the right lane, the next thing I know a VW blue transporter drives up and slams his breaks behind me.

“A man in his 40s got out of his car and came up to my car window shouting, saying that I had just crashed into the back of him.

“I put my window down and said excuse me no I didn’t, I went to drive off as the lights changed and the next thing this man reaches in through my window and tries to snatch my keys from the ignition.

“He failed at the first attempt, the second time he grabbed my keys along with my arms hurling abuse at me.

“He then drags the top half of my body out of the car window.

“My two boys were in the car petrified and were screaming and crying.

“After other vehicles had stopped, one person from the car managed to get the guy to let go of me after about 10 minutes. I was terrified for mine and my children’s safety.”

A spokesman for South Wales Police confirmed that reports of an assault were received on Fabian Way on Friday, September 22nd.

The spokesman added that anyone with information is urged to contact the police via the nonemergency 101 number, quoting reference 1700369958.

The alleged city centre attack follows an alleged unconnected incident in another part of the city last week, which also saw a female victim reportedly targeted while driving her car.

In that case a 21-year-old from Winch Wen, Swansea was driving along Skinner Street on the evening of September 17 when she claims to have been approached by two men and two women.

The women blocked the 21-year-old’s path while the two men tried to enter her car before she managed to get away.
