Tourist returns to find stowaway in his boot

-

A SHOCKED holidaymaker returned home from a trip to France to discover a man in the boot of his car.

Paul Edmunds, 59, arrived back at his Caersws home when he spotted the man’s trainers among his belongings while unpacking the boot of his Nissan.

Mr Edmunds and his wife had stopped in Calais before taking the Eurotunnel back home after their four-day trip.

He believes that the migrant snuck in to his car when he was having a nap and the other passengers had gone for a coffee.

The 22-year-old Ethiopian national was later arrested at the family’s home after travelling 4,500 miles there.

Mr Edmunds told The Sun: “When I saw a face I asked ‘Where do you come from, Calais?’

“He didn’t speak English but was able to ask if he was in England. I said, ‘Yes – well Wales actually,’ and he made a prayer sign and smiled.

“I asked him again where he was from and he said ‘Africa’.

“He had a phone and was trying to contact someone here.

“I’ve never seen my wife’s mouth open so wide as when she saw him step out of the boot.”

Mr Edmunds gave the 22-year-old water and chocolate while waiting for police to arrive, before he was arrested and later handed to immigration officials.

The Home Office said the man will be dealt according to immigration rules.
