Hopkins to launch schools talks tour
KATIE Hopkins will be appearing in Welsh schools to talk to pupils about Brexit and President Trump.
The Daily Mail columnist has been busy promoting her Stand Strong School Tour on her Twitter page, which begins in November.
Ms Hopkins, who lost her job as a presenter on the LBC radio station after making controversial comments about the Manchester Arena bombing, will visit schools to deliver Q&A sessions to 11- to 16-year-olds.
She will tackle a list of controversial topics including Brexit, Trump and the Black Lives Matter movement.
An email from Ms Hopkins’ manager, Mark Cross, to a school that expressed interest in the tour and seen by Wales Online said the divisive media personality was “confirmed” to appear at venues in Wales and Scotland.
The tour has been criticised by teachers.
David Evans, Welsh Secretary at the National Union of Teachers, said: “I would not give her the time of day. Some of the views she has expressed leave a great deal to be desired.
“She is clearly driven by selfpromotion.
“I would seriously doubt many classes would take up this offer, and if they have, I would urge them great caution.
“In this day and age schools need to be very careful in regards to ideas they expose pupils to.
“They need to understand what is going on in the world, but extreme views you need to be careful about exposing them to.”
Ms Hopkins has been busy reaching out to schools for the upcoming tour.
A leaflet she shared on Twitter describes it as “an opportunity to look at the information we are fed, to challenge the views we hold and to understand opinions are never right or wrong.
“We don’t have to agree to get along. We can agree to differ.
“Know what you believe and why. And stand strong.”
