AMAN who took his own life while on holiday in Hungary was tormented by a vicious assault he had been subjected to on a night out in Bristol, an inquest has heard.

Jeff Dylan travelled to Budapest with his girlfriend, family and friends for a holiday in February 2016.

But the 32-year-old was plagued with anxiety regarding an upcoming court case after he was assaulted in Bristol on May 24, 2015.

An inquest into the death at Swansea Civic Centre heard he had become “extremely anxious” about giving evidence in the case and received counselling sessions, during which he had mentioned struggling to deal with the upcoming case.

Two people were subsequently jailed for almost 20 years after the attack, which saw the care assistant brutally attacked with a bottle of cognac.

Ryan Kent-Jones and his girlfriend, Georgia Wilson, were found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Bristol Crown Court.

On February 18 last year, before his death and just months before the court hearing, Mr Dylan requested another session with his counsellor.

An email he sent read: “I’m tired with it all, I’m tired with life.”

On February 19, at 10.30pm, he left the group to return to the hotel room as he had been “falling asleep”.

His partner, Catrin Picand-Jones, returned to the hotel room later and found herself unable to open it.

She called other members of the group and they got into the room to find Mr Dylan inside unconscious.

A statement read in court from the Budapest authorities stated that he had died as a result of asphyxiation.

He was repatriated to his mother in Swansea, the inquest heard.

Coroner Aled Griffith said: “He became anxious and depressed and having to face his assailants played on his mind.

“I’m satisfied to conclude this was a case of suicide.”

Speaking after the court case which followed her son’s death, Mr Dylan’s mother, Teresa Prescott, said: “They were responsible, of course they were. They took my son’s life.”
