‘Hatred group’ terror suspects released
TWO men from Swansea arrested on suspicion of terror offences have been released under investigation.
Police from counterterrorism units arrested 11 individuals suspected of being members of the extreme far-right organisation National Action, on Wednesday.
National Action was proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK in December 2016.
Among those arrested were a 28-year-old man from Swansea on suspicion of membership of a proscribed group and of possessing terrorism materials, and a 23-year-old man from Swansea arrested on suspicion of membership of a proscribed organisation.
As well as the arrests in Swansea, officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East and North West, supported by Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit and Wiltshire Police, have also arrested six men from the north west of England, two men from West Yorkshire and one man from Wiltshire.
Five men have been released under investigation including the two from Swansea and six men remain in custody.
At the time of the arrests, Detective Chief Superintendent Martin Snowden, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “Those who promote extreme rightwing views are looking to spread hatred.
“This will not be tolerated.”
