WELSH PREMIERSHIP

-

STEVE LAW is back at the Bridge Field this afternoon as he looks to mastermind a victory for new club Cardiff over his old one Bedwas.

Law stepped down as Wass head coach at the end of last season after 16 years at the helm to take the reins at the BT Sport Arms Park.

Both sides have started the season with a bang, winning four of their first five games and today’s showdown pits first verses second in the Principality Premiership’s East section.

Bedwas have the slight edge on bonus points won with both sides also looking to bounce back from their first defeats last weekend against Cross Keys and Ebbw Vale respectively.

“It’ll be a little bit weird, after 16 years going into the away changing rooms and little things like that,” admitted Law. “I’m looking forward to it; I’ve got a lot of friends and acquaintances there and I signed probably 80 per cent of the squad.

“But the decision was made and you quickly move on and there’s a rugby match to be played and everyone will be desperate to win it.”

There will be no room for sentiment though and Law has demanded a better performance from his side after they were beaten at home by Ebbw.

Meanwhile, buoyed by the win at Cardiff, 2016 Premiership winners Ebbw Vale will be looking to back that up when they entertain reigning champions Merthyr with ex-Steelmen head coach and now Ironmen chief executive Nigel Davies no doubt an interested spectator at Eugene Cross Park.

Elsewhere Cross Keys will also be full of confidence after beating Bedwas but face a tough trip to Sardis Road to face Pontypridd, while the other game in the East is tomorrow when Newport face Bargoed at Rodney Parade.

In the West section Llandovery, having started the season with four straight wins before a narrow defeat at Aberavon last weekend, will be looking to bounce back against Swansea at Church Bank.

Aberavon are at Llanelli – who go into the game on the back of a five-star show at Neath – while the Welsh All Blacks head to the Brewery Field to face Bridgend. And in North Wales RGC 1404 welcome Carmarthen Quins to Eirias Park.
