Brexiteers living in Alice’s Wonderland

-

MR H Thomas is wrong to suggest that Remainers want to redefine a majority.

As I said in my last letter, it is the Conservative government that has done that, for strike votes.

I was merely applying the new system to other votes. Perhaps he could explain why unions must abide by a different method than applies to other votes.

Also he may wish to explain when it becomes acceptable to have a new referendum. In 1975, 64% voted for membership. I assume that he would argue that much has changed in the EU since then and I would agree.

However, in the Brexit campaign, Boris and his Brexiteers promised £350 million per week extra for the NHS, an end to migrants arriving from Europe, German car manufacturers would ensure that there was a free trade agreement and we would all be better off.

If, as seems likely, at the end of the negotiations it is apparent that these promises cannot be met, is not that a sufficient change to warrant another referendum, or is Mr Thomas again willing to apply different rules in different circumstances?

He suggests that Remainers are running the country down, when in reality they are making a realistic assessment of the outcome. Whereas the Brexiteers are living in Alice’s wonderland where, despite all the evidence, they believe it will turn out right in the end. Alan Rumble Cardiff
