Will home be where the heart is for County?

-

NEWPORT County will be hoping to maintain their fine recent record at home in League Two as they welcome Colchester United to Rodney Parade tonight (7.45pm).

The Exiles are unbeaten in all five of their home league games this season, winning four and keeping four clean sheets.

Their good form at Rodney Parade stretches back to last season too, having won their final four league fixtures of the season, which helped the club complete their ‘Great Escape’.

There was a little blip in the form book last week with a 2-1 reverse to Swansea City U23s on the Desso Playmaster pitch in the Checkatrade Trophy.

But manager Mike Flynn did name a number of fringe players for that game and with the firstteam regulars expected to start, the impressive home form will hopefully return with them.

Flynn’s men come into the game on the back of a moraleboosting 4-0 victory at Forest Green Rovers.

County have been playing well since the start of the season but have lacked the clinical edge in front of goal, but they found it Saturday.

Padraig Amond’s double saw him move top of the club’s goalscoring table with six while Shawn McCoulsky’s late header saw him move level with Frank Nouble on five, so County have goals in them.

Flynn previously said that when his side became more ruthless they would “score a hatful”, and the Exiles boss will be hoping they continue to show their goal threat against Colchester.

The U’s are sitting in the bottom half of the table after an inconsistent spell that has seen them pick up seven points from their last five games.

County have earned 12 in the same period and could be in an automatic promotion place by the end of the week if other results go their way.

Flynn insisted he isn’t getting carried away but it’s hard for the fans to follow suit.
