Bony to miss Foxes – Sanches may return

-

WILFRIED Bony is set to miss Swansea City’s clash with Leicester, but there is better news on the fitness of Renato Sanches.

Ivory Coast international Bony, 28, sat out the win over Huddersfield after suffering with a nerve issue in his calf that had also caused him to experience tightness in his hamstring.

Head coach Paul Clement had initially been hopeful that Bony would have recovered in time to face the Foxes at the Liberty.

However, Bony has yet to take part in training so far this week and it has been accepted that he is not going to be able to play any part against the east Midlands club, who sacked manager Craig Shakespeare on Tuesday.

Bony scored twice the last time he faced Leicester in a Swansea shirt, but he is without a goal in his second stint at the club having made five appearances in all competitions since his £12million move back to SA1 from Manchester City.

Last week Clement had said of Bony’s injury: “Wilfried went away and the Ivory Coast did a scan which showed a little bit of something in the calf.

“It wasn’t clear whether that was an old injury, but it showed a bit of scar tissue which was affecting a nerve which went up to his hamstring, so he decided it was best not to take part.

“He came back last weekend, had treatment for the first couple of days, and he rejoined the group. We are monitoring him closely.”

However, on-loan Bayern Munich midfielder Sanches has returned to training after picking up a minor thigh strain while on international duty with Portugal.

The 20-year-old did not recover in time from the issue to face Huddersfield, but he played a full part in training yesterday and is set to be in contention for selection as Swansea looked to record back to back wins for the first time this season.

But he will face stiff competition for a starting role with the Swans having produced arguably their best performance of the season to date in beating Huddersfield 2-0.

Tom Carroll, Leon Britton and Leroy Fer were handed midfield responsibilities against the Terriers, with Ki Sung-yueng and Sam Clucas featuring from the bench.
