Positive side to selection

28 caps to his name ahead of his move to Toulon next summer. He says he was unaware of the full implications before he agreed to move to France, while Warren Gatland says he spoke to the player’s agent.

Does Davies have any sympathy for his fellow No. 9?

“I don’t know much about it,” he said.

“I don’t read any press or anything but Toulon are one of the best clubs in the world.

“The food and coffee is great down there, so I am sure he will have a good time.”

The Scarlets face Bath in a vital Champions Cup clash in Llanelli on Friday evening, a match they need to win after just coming up short in Toulon last weekend, taking a bonus point from an agonising 21-20 defeat.

“We are obviously bitterly disappointed after losing to Toulon, but I think it’s shown that we’ve come on a long way over the last couple of years,” said Davies.

“I am sure that we would have been happy with a losing bonus point out there a couple of years ago but we are very disappointed with not coming away with a win on the weekend.

“It makes this Friday an even bigger game for us now. Like every team in Europe you have to win your home games to get through to the latter stages.

“It’s a short week so we’ve told ourselves that we are just going to concentrate on our own game and make sure that we are in the right place and I’m sure that will take care of them.

“On the personal front, I’m fairly happy with the way I’m playing.

“As a team we are playing some good rugby, so I suppose as half backs we must be doing something right if we are winning games and playing some decent rugby.

“I’m always looking to improve and hopefully I can keep getting better over the next few weeks.”
