Teenager dies and two people are hurt in one-car accident

A TEENAGER has died following a car crash in Neath Port Talbot in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The youth, who is believed to have been 17 years old, was involved in a collision involving one car near Seven Sisters fire station.

A police spokesman said: “South Wales Police is investigat­ing a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at approximat­ely 3.45am. The collision, which involved a single vehicle – a red Mini – occurred at the junction of the Church Road and Church Place. A 17-year-old male passenger sustained fatal injuries.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision, or who saw the vehicle being driven prior to the incident. Church Road was closed in both directions while officers worked at the scene.”

Two passengers, including one adult male, were transporte­d to Morriston Hospital.

Two fire crews, from Seven Sisters and Abercrave, were dispatched to the scene at 3.45am, where they remained for around seven hours.

Two ambulance crews and a rapid response car were also sent to the scene.

Local councillor Stephen Hunt was one of the first to pay tribute to the teen. “It’s tragic. I absolutely feel so sad for the family,” he said. “My heartfelt sympathies and condolence­s go out to his family.”

A spokeswoma­n for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue service described the accident as “quite serious.”
