Chef caught with more than 1,000 images of ‘extreme pornography’
A MAN who started watching extreme pornography when he was unemployed built up a collection of more than 1,000 images.
Martyn Williams, 36, from Ebbw Vale, told officers during his police interview he did not realise it was an offence.
Newport Crown Court heard the offending occurred between March and July this year.
Ieuan Bennett, prosecuting, said police seized his laptop, computer hard drive and mobile phone.
Officers found a total of 1,356 images of extreme pornography involving women and animals.
Williams was interviewed on July 6 and accepted he was addicted to viewing the material.
Prosecutors said Williams had seven previous convictions, including driving offences, battery and causing grievous bodily harm.
Williams, from Hendre in Ebbw Vale, admitted possessing extreme pornography. Jeffrey Jones, defending, stressed his client had no relevant previous convictions. The court heard he works as a chef and has not been interested in the material since getting a girlfriend.
Recorder Richard Booth QC made a two-year community order, requiring him to complete 240 hours of unpaid work and attend a rehabilitation programme. He must pay an £85 victim surcharge, plus £145 in costs and an order was made for the computer equipment to be destroyed.
