Ups and downs of trying to out-bounce theAussies
NEVER mind the Ashes, a team from Swansea is hoping it has the bouncers to better an Australian police department and bring home a world record for the longest marathon on a bouncy castle.
The eight volunteers aim to spend a total of 48 hours – in 20-minute turns – bouncing up and down, while raising £5,000 for the Golau Cancer Foundation, the charity which supports the work of the South West Wales Cancer Centre at Singleton.
The current Guinness World Record stands at 43 hours and 25 minutes and was set by a team of Australian police officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police, in New South Wales, in May 2015.
Bizarrely, one of the people involved in this record attempt has held the same world record previously.
The team is led by Craig Barrington at Limitless Trampoline Park, off Fabian Way.
Mr Barrington, who has experience of the event, said: “We are in the middle of a Guinness World Record attempt for the longest marathon of bouncing on a bouncy castle.
“The current record is 43 hours 25 minutes and 1 second. We are trying to beat that by taking it to 48 hours.
“There are eight of us altogether and one of us is on the bouncy castle at all times.
“Once you come off you can’t go back on for another hour, so we split ourselves into teams of four and do it in 20-minute slots.” Of his experience, he said: “I have actually held this world record before.
“When I was in sixth form in school me and some friends got together and set the first-ever world record bouncy castle marathon. We did it for 12 hours.
“I discovered early last year that it had been beaten; twice actually.”
