Swans face falling behind the Bluebirds

-

WELSH football legend Leighton James has warned Swansea City are in danger of being usurped by arch-rivals Cardiff City unless Paul Clement starts getting it right.

Clement’s Swans have won just two Premier League matches this season and could dip into the bottom three if they lose to Arsenal on Saturday and teams below them get good results.

The Swans’ lacklustre League Cup performance also drew stinging criticism from fans and pundits as Clement’s side went down lamely to Manchester United.

James, a big Swans’ backer, has called on Clement to stop the chopping and changing and bring a consistency of selection and style to the team.

In his column for the South Wales Evening Post, he writes: “It’s sad for me as a Swansea fan because the likelihood – based on current form – is that we could be overtaken by Cardiff City very soon, with the way we’re playing, and the way they are going under Neil Warnock.

“Losing to Manchester United in some ways was acceptable because Joe Public doesn’t expect us to beat them, or any of the other big teams.

“But I have to say, at the moment, Swansea look like a relegation side to me.

“I would love to be able to say we will be okay and there will be a turning point, but for the time being I personally can’t see that happening.”

James pointed out: “Clement works in a results business and, at the moment, results simply aren’t good enough.

“He is under a lot of pressure and he deserves to be.

“Why? Because it is his job to put a winning team together on the field.”
