Teacher is suspended after assault on relatives

-

A SUPPLY teacher has been suspended for six months after attacking two members of his family.

Sean Maliphant Hogan was suspended by the Education Workforce Council (EWC) after it heard that he was convicted of battery last year.

Mr Hogan, 56, who worked for Apollo Teaching Services, was given a 12-month community order at Carmarthenshire Magistrates’ Court on September 28 last year.

Presenting officer Cadi Dewi told the EWC’s fitness to practise committee: “On May 19, 2016, Mr Hogan visited family members.

“He was carrying a family bereavement at the time and endeavoured to discuss it with family members.

“He was arrested for assaulting two family members in relation to battery.”

Ms Dewi said the received minor injuries.

Mr Hogan, who at the time of his conviction was living in Llanelli, was ordered by the courts to pay £150 in compensation and was given two restraining orders.

The supply teacher, who was not present or represented at yesterday’s hearing, was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work, which lasted until September 27 this year.

Speaking on behalf of the EWC committee, Tim Hill said: “Mr Hogan was registered with the EWC as a supply teacher and a further education teacher.

“We had limited evidence from Mr Hogan.

“He self-committed his conviction to the EWC, however, there was no evidence that he had shown regret or remorse.

“The committee decided it’s appropriate to impose a suspension order. The order should be imposed for six months.” victims
