Rave pills ‘Russian roulette’ warning after teen’s death

-

A POLICE chief has warned youngsters they are “playing Russian roulette” and could die if they take ecstasy-type tablets.

The appeal was made in the wake of the drugs-related death of Morgan Philip Miller-Smith, 16, who became ill after he attended a Halloween rave in north Wales at the weekend.

The teenager is believed to have taken tablets which were pink and square, with the Rolls-Royce symbol on one side and 200mg on the other, at the event in Gwytherin, near Abergele.

Morgan, from Conwy, died at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Rhyl in the early hours of Sunday after police were called to the rave by ambulance staff at about 1.10am. Superintendent Gareth Evans said yesterday: “This was a terribly sad incident in which a young boy has lost his life and a family has been left devastated.

“We know that another boy, also aged 16, was taken seriously ill earlier in the evening after taking drugs at the same event. Fortunately he did not need hospital treatment and has fully recovered.

“But the message from this tragic incident is clear. Taking ecstasy-type pills and other illegal drugs is extremely dangerous. You do not know what is in them, who has made them or where they were made and I would plead with young people not to risk their lives by using them.

“Taking these pills is like playing Russian roulette in that you have no control over the risk. You could die.

“Aside from the obvious health danger, if you are caught in possession of illegal substances we will take action and this could have serious consequences for you in later life.”

Morgan was described as “sweet, funny and caring” on the Facebook page of L’s Coffee & Book Shop in Conwy, where he and his family worked.
