Making GlobalWelsh’s international community a reality

-

GLOBALWELSH has announced the latest developments in its bid to build a global network of Welsh people and friends overseas.

In tandem with the launch of its new and improved website today, GlobalWelsh is also launching a new donation-based crowdfunding drive to accelerate its plan to build a community helping Welsh people achieve more at home and abroad.

The CIC (Community Interest Company) has announced that they are now looking for “pioneers” to build the GlobalWelsh community and fund the next phase of their mission to connect up to a million people who have an affinity for Wales.

Pioneers can donate anything from £2 up, and they will retain their pioneer status for life. Those donating larger amounts will also be issued with a gold certificate, access to GlobalWelsh Connect and two tickets to a Global Gathering in 2018.

GlobalWelsh is hoping to raise up to £250,000 from individuals, organisations and businesses to increase the team’s capacity and fund the next part of the GlobalWelsh mission – a new mobile platform (GlobalWelsh Connect) connecting community members around the world.

People can still pledge support and become part of the GlobalWelsh mission without donating. By becoming a community member on the site, they can submit “call-outs” to other members of the community in order to seek support, advice and introductions to other members across the globe.

Pioneers and community members can also submit content, share “Wonderful Welsh Stories” and eventually nominate their recommendations for a “World-Class Welsh” accolade.

GlobalWelsh has four companies and two individuals as patrons and they have invested in its mission.

They are seeking a total of 24 patrons in all to realise their vision.

Other supporters include those who feature in the #MyWales online campaign accompanying the new site and crowdbuilding drive.

So far, Laura Tenison MBE, Lawrence Jones MBE, Andy Middleton, Stephen Davies (Penderyn MD), Gareth Jones (Welsh ICE), adventurer Ash Dykes, Dai Baker, Canadabased MasterChef judge/entrepreneur Michael Bonaccini, New York Welsh (Ty Francis and Rhodri Morgan) and Washington DC Welsh (Elin Morgan) have recorded video tributes.

GlobalWelsh founder Walter May said: “We can do so much more to reconnect Wales with our overseas communities and our new platform is just the start of the journey.

“There is an untapped pool of people beyond the ‘usual suspects’ we hear so much about already. These could be people who’ve lost touch with Wales or perhaps are at a stage in their career trajectory where they are ready to give something back.

“Seeing the passion and enthusiasm in our #MyWales videos so far is evidence enough that people are motivated to make a difference and shout about Wales’ achievements.”
