Thug knifed student and hit another in the face

-

A THUG stabbed a student and punched another in the face in an unprovoked attack before going on the run.

Nathan Long, 25, armed himself with a knife and shouted out to a group of people, including the victims: “Come on then boys, who wants it then?” before charging at them with a knife.

Yesterday Cardiff Crown Court heard the two students, both aged 17 at the time of the attack, attended a house party in Porthcawl on May 14 near to where the defendant was living at the time.

At around 12.45am people started to leave the party and were approached by Long.

Prosecutor Laurence Jones said: “The defendant barged through that group and then turned around and said, ‘Come on then boys, who wants it then?’

“He produced a knife and charged into the group.

“[The first victim] tried to back away from him but the defendant approached him and stabbed him to the side. The defendant, knife in hand, approached others including [the second victim] and he punched him in the face, which caused him to fall to the floor and injure his wrist.”

When Long was arrested he told officers his actions were in self-defence but he later pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and threatening another with an offensive weapon.

It was also revealed that the defendant was intoxicated.

In mitigation, defence barrister Andrew Taylor said Long’s parents were alcohol and drug abusers and he struggled with ADHD.

Judge Patrick Curran QC sentenced Long, of Stanley Road, Poole, Dorset, to six years’ imprisonment and an extended licence period of three years.
