Painting like a professional

-

AS we begin to spend more time indoors, and welcome friends and family there has never been a better time to get the overalls out and start the new season afresh.

Here at Leekes we know that if a job is worth doing it is worth doing well, so here are some of our helpful hints and tips to bare in mind before starting your new project.

Before you even think about picking up that paint brush take a good hard look at your walls and fill in any minor lines or cracks – even hairline cracks can ruin the look of a freshly painted wall so be particular. Fillers tend to shrink after use so it is better to have a heavy hand with this.

Your walls will probably be looking a bit messy right now, but not to worry. It’s time to smooth them down! Run coarse sandpaper over your walls to help smooth out any lumps, bumps and any cracked paint that may be present. Don’t forget any skirting or banisters you will also be touching up! Wipe everything down with a damp cloth to ensure that all of the sawdust has been removed before moving onto the next step.

Primer should be used on anything that you will be painting – walls, ceiling, skirting etc. This may seem like a step that is more trouble that it is worth, but priming will create the smooth base for your paint or gloss to go on perfectly first time. Use a minimum of one coat to create a smooth and sleek surface.

You can now go ahead and get started on your painting. Pick the perfect shade for you and your home and be ready to show off your handy work to anyone who will look this season.
