300 jobs on offer at retailer

-

THREE hundred jobs have gone up for grabs at a huge new discount store being built in south Wales.

Trago Mills has launched its main recruitment drive for its massive outlet in Merthyr Tydfil.

The retailer, which already has three stores in Cornwall and Devon, is due to open its first Welsh store in spring 2018.

Hundreds of jobs are available in retail, catering, admin and maintenance and the roles available include everything from store manager to till operators.

As with the first phase of recruitment, Trago will be working closely with The Economic Growth Partnership (EGP), which consists of public, private and third sector organisations, including representatives from Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, Jobcentreplus, Tydfil Training, Careers Wales and Merthyr Tydfil Institute for The Blind.

Initial screening will be carried out by Jobcentreplus in Merthyr and the surrounding areas.

There will also be a Recruitment Fair this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at The College Merthyr Tydfil, where those interested in applying can meet key team members to discuss the range of jobs available.

An official ceremony last week saw the completion of the fifth of 17 towers, each 20m high, that will give the store its distinctive appearance.

Trago Mills was founded in the mid1960s, by Mike Robertson. His son Bruce is the current chairman.

Located just off the A470, the new store will include a café, leisure facilities and a petrol station.

When completed the store will contain more than 2,500 tonnes of steel and use the equivalent of five full Olympic swimming pools of concrete.
