Armed police in attendance after alleged assault in city

POLICE have said a 15-year-old suffered ‘serious but non-lifethreat­ening’ injuries in an alleged assault in Swansea.

Investigat­ions are continuing following the incident which took place in Jasmine Close, Sketty, on Saturday night.

Residents reported a large police presence, including armed officers, along with ambulances at the scene, with forensic officers also present.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said they responded to reports of a serious alleged assault, “at an address in Jasmine Close, Sketty, at approximat­ely 7.50pm on Saturday.

“Armed officers were deployed alongside uniformed officers as a precaution­ary measure.

“A 15-year-old boy was taken to the University Hospital of Wales with serious but non-life-threatenin­g injuries, and has since been discharged.

“The property was cordoned off while forensic work was carried out, before the scene was released on Sunday afternoon.”

One of the residents, who did not want to be named, said previously: “Lots of armed response police were present. Probably 20-plus police in the street.

“Police cars went all the way down the main road! Armed police had big automatic guns. I’ve never seen so many police. There was someone on a stretcher.”

Another, who also did not want to be named, said: “They were bringing bags of stuff out [of a property] and forensics were there.”

Witnesses are being sought by police. The spokesman said inquiries were ongoing and anyone with informatio­n which could assist with the investigat­ion should contact 101, quoting reference 1700439146.”
