Shambles caused by WRU incompetence

-

THE WRU is trying to blame fans for the chaos at Saturday’s rugby match because they did not turn up early enough, but the problem was caused by the incompetence of the WRU, who drastically underestimated the time and resources needed to check 70,000 fans.

Moreover, the queues were unmarshalled and no provision was made to deal with distressed children or those with disabilities. Even worse, had there been a terrorist with a bagful of explosives in the queue then holding hundreds of people in a confined space it would have resulted in carnage if a device was set off. Perhaps the worst criticism, though, was that it was difficult to see what the checks actually achieved since they were nothing like those at an airport and involved little more than a cursory look at handbags and then a quick wave of a detector over one’s body.

The WRU says (wrongly, because it didn’t) that it had advised fans to turn up three hours before the match started, but in future such warnings will not be needed since supporters will stay away in droves if things don’t improve, and who will then buy the beer at £5 a pint?

D Jones Kidderminster lose their first match. The players and coaches are not to blame, they need as much help as is possible. What help can the WRU give them?

It’s not rocket science to see why this is so. While Wales’ first opponents are always one of the top three southern hemisphere teams, England choose a softer opponent, never one of the top three.

Whoever arranges Welsh matches needs to wise up, losing matches can affect their confidence. WE Williams Pontyberem
