What exactly is the council doing?

-

THE Independent Group has been in charge of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council since June 9.

Subsequently they have, to my knowledge, cancelled a meeting of full council on August 30 and three cabinet meetings, presumably as they had nothing to report.

At a meeting of the full council on September 27, it was confirmed that they had failed to fill 10 positions, to which they were entitled, on a number of key council committees.

Despite a promise from the leader of the council that he would ensure that all of these vacancies would be filled by September 30, four positions remained unfilled as late as October 17.

This hardly inspires confidence in the new administration.

On October 25 I attended a meeting of full council and left the chamber when requested to do so, to enable elected members to consider a confidential report. Imagine my surprise when the item was deferred within five minutes of my departure!

What was the reason for invoking a Section 100 exclusion of public notice order, if a decision had been made to defer a discussion/decision on the confidential report?

Just what has the new administration been up to in the past five months? What are their key priorities or direction of travel?

Does their left hand even know what their left hand proposes doing?
