January spending plans will be up for discussion as Kaplan flies in

-

SWANSEA City’s January recruitment plans will be up for discussion when Paul Clement meets with majority shareholder Steve Kaplan at Burnley this weekend.

American Kaplan, who along with Jason Levien heads up the consortium which own 68 per cent of the club, is due to attend the Premier League clash at Turf Moor as Swansea look to climb out of the relegation zone.

Swansea have recorded just two wins from their 11 top-flight fixtures so far this season, scoring just seven goals, and putting the spotlight on head coach Clement.

The 45-year-old’s position is not thought to be under threat, but Kaplan will use an already-planned visit for a Premier League meeting to offer the former Derby boss some support by also travelling to the north-west for Saturday’s fixture.

And the pair will look to make further progress on identifying January targets with the next transfer window now just a matter of weeks away and Swansea under scrutiny for their recruitment work during the summer.

“I am in regular contact with Steve and Jason, that has been the case ever since I have been at the club,” said Clement.

“Win, lose or draw, whether we play well or badly, we always have a conversation every week.

“This trip has been planned for some time, it involves a Premier League meeting as well for owners and chairmen.

“Then he is going to be travelling from London up to Burnley to sup- port the team and we really welcome his support and look forward to seeing him.

“When we meet and when we talk on the telephone we discuss a wide range of issues.

“Ranging from tactics, to the opposition to individual players and performances and, of course, always about recruitment.

“We have a rough idea of what we think we need (in January) in order to strengthen but things can change.

“Things can change within our own squad with players stepping up and performing to a high level. An injury can change the way you have to do things in the window.

“Although we have some specific areas that we think we need to strengthen in, we always need to be ready to act in alternative positions.”
