Swans stay hopeful on Abraham

-

SWANSEA City are optimistic Tammy Abraham will be ft and available for the crunch Premier League clash with Bournemouth at the weekend.

The 20-year-old striker was stretchered off late on in the defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor after suffering a back spasm.

The on-loan Chelsea forward had treatment for the problem midway through the second half, at one stage asking team-mate Leroy Fer to help him stretch to try and alleviate the problem.

But it reared its head again after he had fired a shot over the bar and he had to be carried from the field.

There had been fears the youngster, who recently won his first England caps against Germany and Brazil, could be facing a spell on the sidelined.

But after being assessed, and despite sitting out training on Tuesday, head coach Paul Clement is hopeful Abraham will be in the mix to face the Cherries.

“Tammy didn’t train today but we are expecting him to rejoin training this week,” said the Swans boss. “His back went into spasm at Burnley, but I don’t think there is an injury there.

“He is a bit stiff at the moment, but we think he will be OK for Bournemouth.”

Abraham has been a rare bright spot for the Swans so far this season, scoring four and creating one of their seven topflight goals so far this season.

He has been directly involved in 71 per cent of Swansea’s Premier League goals, the highest percentage for any player in the division.

He will be unavailable for next week’s trip to Chelsea due to the terms of his loan spell.
