From Thor to Hulk, super signed prints to Marvel at

Superheroe­s and comic characters have always been big business, and now, to coincide with Stan Lee’s 95th birthday, one Cardiff gallery is selling exclusive Marvel prints signed by the legend himself. Rachel Mainwaring finds out more...

Anew series of Marvel prints hand-signed by comic legend Stan Lee have been revealed at a Cardiff gallery this week.

The latest instalment of the Superheroe­s collection is being released to coincide with the lead up to Lee’s 95th birthday.

Created in collaborat­ion with Marvel’s fine art publisher, Choice Fine Art, the prints were unveiled at Castle Fine Art in St David’s Dewi Sant yesterday.

They capture a selection of recognisab­le Marvel comic book covers dating from the 1990s to the present day, including much-loved characters Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, The Invincible Iron Man and The Amazing Spider-Man – all of which were created during Lee’s reign at Marvel.

Expected to sell-out in record time, each piece of artwork is individual­ly hand-signed by Lee, who is credited with introducin­g complex characters with both light and dark qualities to the industry.

This type of characteri­sation had rarely been seen in comics before, contributi­ng to Marvel’s widespread success as one of the most popular brands in the world today.

Peter Gilby, regional sales director for Castle Fine Art, Cardiff, which is a member of Washington Green’s nationwide network of high street galleries, said: “Once again we have seen an increase in comic book sales in the last year, so it’s no surprise that our Marvel prints also continue to grow in popularity.
