Drug dealer caught with £5k jailed

-

A DRUG dealer caught with cocaine and £5,000 in cash has been jailed for 40 months.

Police discovered a house he rented in Barry to use as a base to run his drugs operation after plain-clothed officers spotted 26-year-old Caerwyn Maunders acting suspiciously.

The officers followed a car Maunders got into until it came to a stop in Wenvoe Terrace, Barry.

They saw Maunders get out of the vehicle and run off when officers asked him to stop.

He was caught in nearby St Paul’s Avenue by two other officers, where he was arrested and taken into custody.

He was carrying a large amount of cash, and a search of his home in Woodlands Road revealed further stashes of money.

A safe found beneath his bed led police to another property in Albert Street, where they found an ounce of cocaine, deal bags and scales. Police say the property was being used purely as a base from where he ran his drugs operation.

Maunders was charged with possessing Class A and B drugs with intent to supply and was remanded into custody. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Julian Kerslake said: “Our officers are patrolling the streets and are well aware of who they should be looking for.

“Maunders has previous convictions for drugs so it was a great spot and subsequent teamwork by all detectives involved in his arrest.”
