Grandad jailed over child abuse pictures

-

A “perverted” grandfather discussed sexual fantasies involving children in an online chat room and was caught with more than 100 indecent images on his laptop.

Ronald Lunn, 68, told police he loved children and was described by his counsel as a family man but he admitted making and distributing dozens of images of child abuse.

Sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, Judge Stephen Hopkins QC described his behaviour as “sickening”.

The court heard the offending occurred over a period of four years.

Gareth James, prosecuting, said officers carried out a search warrant at the defendant’s home in Caldicot on October 16 following intelligence from the Gwent Police Online Investigation Team.

Lunn was at home with his wife and pointed police to the laptop in his study, saying: “On the computer.”

He said: “I’m disgusted by it but I just couldn’t help it. I’m totally ashamed of myself.”

Investigators found 119 still images on his computer, including six of the most serious Category A, 10 at Category B, and 103 at Category C.

Prosecutors said most of the images involved girls aged between 10 and 12 with one showing a child as young as three.

The court heard Lunn used chat rooms to discuss fantasies, for role play, and to share images. He called himself Foxy, or Hazel if he was pretending to be a girl.

Judge Hopkins described the content shared between users as “filth”.

Lunn was jailed for 20 months and the judge imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
