SYMPTOMS TO WATCH OUT FOR:
As the prostate encircles the water pipe, any enlargement, benign or cancerous, can restrict the flow of urine from the bladder leading to changes in urination. Symptoms can include:
Having to pass urine frequently, especially at night A delay when starting to urinate A weaker stream or having to strain to pass urine
A sensation of incomplete bladder emptying
Many men assume that these urinary symptoms are a fact of ageing and put up with them for many years, before seeking medical help.
Men no longer need accept their symptoms as a consequence of ageing and studies have also suggested that those with the symptoms are more likely to suffer with erectile dysfunction, problems with ejaculation and experience anxiety or depression.
Through the use of a combination of several simple tests, the prostate can be fully assessed for benign and malignant disease and, if required, a treatment plan discussed.
Prostate cancer is incredibly common and so symptoms should not be ignored as early diagnosis is paramount to a successful outcome.
Go to your GP for a check up, if you notice any differences when passing water – such as having to go more often at night, a delay when you go, just a trickle when you get there or if you don’t feel that your bladder has emptied properly.
