December deadline looms for Glastir capital works

-

FARMERS are being reminded of the December deadline for Glastir capital works and to request a derogation if they are struggling to complete their works because of bad weather.

FUW policy officer Charlotte Priddy said: “All 2016 and 2017 capital works have got to be completed by December 31, and claimed no later than February 28, via RPW online.

“In many areas of Wales there has been rain on an almost daily basis since the summer, meaning the water table is exceptionally high, and surface water and waterlogged soil has made access to areas where work needed to be undertaken is impossible.

“Those who are struggling to complete the work they have been contracted to carry out in their Glastir agreements should make sure that they request a derogation as soon as possible, and before the end of December.”

Mrs Priddy emphasised that that derogations could not be requested retrospectively, and that Government working hours are significantly reduced over the Christmas holiday period.

“The basic message therefore is to contact the Welsh Government as soon as possible if the exceptionally wet weather since June has prevented the completion of works,” she said.

Derogations must be requested in writing, either through RPW Online or by writing directly to RPW.

“The RPW Online account is naturally the quickest route, especially at this time of year, and FUW staff will be happy to help members in this predicament,” added Mrs Priddy.
