14/12/17 THEY SAID WHAT?

-

we are bombarded with complaints when a gathering of Welsh speakers converses in Welsh in front of monoglots.

I’ve worked in a number of European countries over the past 25 years and there multilingualism is considered a benefit and not a hindrance.

I worked in South Africa for a period last year where there are at least three languages are in common use in business, and bilingualism is the norm in all parts of Wales by now, although not as commonplace as we would like.

It’s Wales - we speak Welsh - get over it ! Wyn Jones Caerdydd “I am the target of false accusations and fabricated stories of women who I don’t know and/or have never met” - US President Donald Trump, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment. “I think that I have been waiting all my life, and now I just don’t know what the hell to say” - Doug Jones, the first Democratic Senate victor in Alabama in a quarter of a century. “The only thing I can say is that, for me, it was just a question of diversity - diversity in behaviours, diversity in education. Just that and nothing more than that. The diversity of behaviour, of opinion, of education” - Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s enigmatic explanation for the fracas with Manchester City after their derby match. “I’m a real nature girl and I love the Earth. I hate technology and cellphones. I hate having to have one all of the time. I don’t tweet, or buzz, or bing, or whatever! It’s a conscious thing - I hate the way that it can take over young people’s lives”

- Actress Maya Hawke, above. “Some guy a couple of years ago grabbed my buttocks quite aggressively, and I just smashed him round the face”

- Artist Tracey Emin. “This year we defied the pundits and in the snap general election overturned Theresa May’s majority and her mandate, giving hope to millions of people that things can and will change. We look forward to 2018 as a government-in-waiting, ready to take over and serve the interests of the many, not the few”

- Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
