Ambulance driver gets eight years in jail for indecently assaulting a child
AMAN has been jailed for eight years for indecently assaulting a child more than a decade ago.
Adrian Orum, 34, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced.
St John Ambulance driver Orum was charged with one count of indecency with a child and three counts of indecent assault. He denied all charges but was convicted.
The court heard that Orum’s actions continue to have a psychological impact on the victim.
Prosecutor Andrew Davies said: “The victim said it has impacted on her life. She feels it will have an impact on her in the future.”
The court heard the experiences she endured could affect any relationship she forms in future.
Judge Thomas Crowther described how Orum assaulted the victim on more than one occasion when he was aged 18.
The court was told of one incident when the victim ran away from Orum out of fear.
James Evans, for the defence, told the court that Orum was a young man when the offences were committed. Mr Evans told the court of how, in the past, Orum has given help to many people with his firstaid training.
Orum, of Bridgend Road, Llanharan, Rhondda Cynon Taff, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Sentencing, Judge Crowther said the defendant had been of an age to know that what he was doing was wrong.
Judge Crowther said: “The victim did not understand what was happening was wrong. Then she had sexual education lessons at school and she was taught that sex was part of a process of love.
“You were a young man when it happened but you were still an adult.”
