Jeremy Corbyn must speak out on Brexit
WHAT has happened to the proposed new town-centre bus station?
The site has been cleared for over a year, but no sign of any construction.
Could the reason be because of Brexit, now that the work will no longer receive European infrastructure funds? If so, this will be a major blow for plans to regenerate the town centre.
But, of course, Brexit has wider significant implications for all of us.
Even before we leave the EU the pound in our pocket has less value than it did before the referendum. Witness the increased prices in the shops and, in many cases, those that have remained unchanged have been subject to weight reductions.
Further evidence suggests that Brexit will diminish the chances of children in the future, undermine our commitment to improving the environment and human rights and importantly, for communities like our own, hugely dependent on the NHS, undermine its viability.
It is disappointing therefore to see the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, apparently still sitting on the fence on the Brexit issue. Of all current politicians, he has a record of speaking out for what he believes to be true and has never wavered from his principles.
He must surely see the implications of the present government’s policy of leaving the EU with a hard Brexit, for they will fall on those least able to bear the damaging consequences.
It is time for Jeremy Corbyn to speak out. Leon Stanfield Merthyr Tydfil
