THE most expensive street in Wales – where properties sell for an average of more than £1m – has been revealed.

Figures by Lloyds Bank found there are 72 £1m-plus streets across England – but only one in Wales.

St Annes Close in Swansea is the only million-pound street in the country, with properties selling for an average of £1,029,000.

Twyncyn in Dinas Powys is next at £813,000, followed by Mumbles Road in Swansea where properties sell for an average of £796,000.

Cardiff’s Rudry Road at £791,000 and Druidstone Road at £790,000 follow behind.

The Principality House Price Index for Wales found in October that the average house price in Wales at £176,316, an increase of £5,889 or 3.5% over the past 12 months.

One luxury estate agent in Mumbles said they are not surprised St Annes Close topped the list.

Mumbles branch manager for Dawson’s estate agents Emma Bolton said: “We have got a property there on St Annes Close at the moment.

“It’s always been one of the most sought-after areas.

“People are crying out for properties there basically. You have got full views of the bay right across, and the property we have there is no different.

“We have had a fair bit of interest in the property, but there’s a limited number of people who could buy it of course.

“I think it’ll absolutely stay one of the most sought after areas. We have seen a really good increase in the whole Mumbles area.”

On the market through Dawsons’ Fine and Country arm, which sells luxury properties, the six-bedroom house on St Annes Close has an asking price of £1,595,000.

Complete with an indoor swimming pool, the three-storey property overlooks the Gower coastline in Langland.

One Cardiff estate agent said he expects price rises in certain areas due to development of the city centre. Jeffrey Ross director Ross Hooper Nash said: “I think the market will see a change and areas closer to the city centre such as Pontcanna, Llandaff, Roath Park and Cyncoed will become some of the most expensive streets to live in Cardiff due to the proximity to local coffee shops, parks and of course the benefit of a shorter commute.

“The rise of the city centre office market and the city centre brands such as John Lewis are also closely linked with higher selling prices.

Mr Nash said that they sold a detached property on Fairwater Road in Llandaff for £950,000 in September and a house in the Churchill’s development in Llandaff completed for £1.2m in December.

But, in a different league altogether, the most expensive street in the UK is nestled in the heart of London’s Belgravia.

A typical property in Grosvenor Crescent, located near to Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace and the shops of Knightsbridge, will cost buyers close to £17m – at an average price of £16,918,000.
