A poor service for bus passengers

-

I ARRIVED at Sophia Gardens to collect a friend from the Heathrow coach, at 9pm. The coach was one and a half hours late because of weather conditions.

I met a number of buses in that time.

Conditions were freezing. Strangers got off buses and had no idea where they were. Some wanted the railway station. The place is ill lit with no directions.

Others were not aware of the couple of taxis parked in the gloom opposite.

From 9pm the place was deserted but for a lone young woman also waiting to get on a bus for hours in the freezing cold.

I would go as far as to say she not only froze but was in a dangerous position.

There is no adequate shelter only a one sided edifice which would not shield from blowing rain or snow.

I saw just one man in a green jacket who was on the phone continually and leaping on newly arrived buses to keep warm for a few minutes.

Buses to Heathrow stop at the various terminals.

Why can’t these coaches drive past the station on their way to Sophia Gardens?

Why is the place not floodlit with large directions?

If my man in the green jacket is a council employee, why can there not be an adequate bus shelter from the elements?

There are transport police at the station, why not here?

Why can he not have a safe office which people could approach for advice?

Would the Mail like to ask councillors how many of them have actually visited this site at 9pm? I suspect very few.
