Wrexham heartache as Barrow level late

WREXHAM ........................ 3 BARROW ............................ 3

WREXHAM lost more ground on the leaders in the National League after being denied all three points by Calum MacDonald’s 95th minute leveller for Barrow, writes Carl Field.

Scott Boden had looked to have clinched the win for the Dragons with his first goal at the Racecourse as they battled back from behind having also led early on.

It was the first time this season Wrexham had scored three times but the late setback was certainly a kick in the teeth for Dean Keates and his players.

In what was a high-octane start from Wrexham, they had an early opportunity when Marcus Kelly played George Miller through but his shot was parried by Joel Dixon.

Miller found himself through on goal again four minutes later but pulled his shot wide before Dixon was called into action again in the visiting goal as he was forced to tip Kelly’s 25-yard effort over the bar.

Wrexham, though, did get the goal their early pressure deserved and it arrived on 18 minutes, scored by Chris Holroyd who nudged home at the near post from Kelly’s inswinging corner.

Barrow were level on the halfhour mark when keeper Chris Dunn spilled after Donovan Makoma’s ball in and it fell nicely for ex-Dragon Jordan White, back on his old stamping ground, who tapped home from close range.

And, six minutes later, they were in front through Dan Jones, who cut in from the right flank and curled an exquisite shot beyond Dunn and into the far corner.

But there was another twist before the break when, right on half time, James Jennings got Wrexham back level terms when he struck a free-kick through the wall and into the bottom left corner.

Miller then almost put Wrexham back in front a minute after the re-start but saw his shot cleared off the line.

But it was Miller who had a huge hand in Wrexham’s third goal on 76 minutes when he got up well to meet a cross and head towards goal and, after the ball smashed back off the crossbar, Boden was there to convert.

In what was a frantic finish, both Keates and Barrow boss Ady Pennock were sent to the stands after clashing on the touchline before MacDonald’s late, late leveller for the visitors.
