Video refereeing is a must – boss

-

But then, as Cardiff pushed, that’s when they could have done with the black cats being on the Bluebirds’ side. The goal ruled out after long consultation – and the reaction of the players showing just how upset and angry they were by the eventual decision – saw it all run away from the visitors.

Just as it happened at Bolton, with a debatable penalty and a goal ruled out.

More importantly, Cardiff need some luck with injuries. Jazz Richards returned to the bench here, Morrison should be fit by the time the next chance to earn Championship points come along against Sunderland and a certain Chris Coleman in a couple of weeks, and the hope has to be that Zohore and others can benefit either from extra games or extra rest.

It’s not that they need luck, they could just do with some breaks to get them through a period where their rivals are being encouraged at the drop in form.

Perhaps Warnock needs to find a new route to Cardiff City Stadium, because this is clearly driving him mad and could yet take his and the Bluebirds’ promotion dreams off course. NEIL Warnock has backed Arsene Wenger’s call for video refereeing to come in sooner after slamming the standard of refereeing following controversy at QPR.

Warnock’s Cardiff went down in a 2-1 defeat at Loftus Road, with the veteran Bluebirds boss left fuming when Junior Hoilett had a goal ruled out for offside.

But replays suggested he was played in by a QPR player, with a lengthy conversation between referee and linesman before the goal was eventually ruled out only confusing the matters more.

The incident came 24 hours after Arsenal boss Wenger ripped into refereeing standards and urged for video assisted refereeing (VAR) to be fully rolled out following a controversial handball decision given against his side in their draw at West Brom.

And a frustrated Warnock said: “No wonder Arsene was talking about it – it’s got to help because they’re not good enough now. The last couple of years they’ve been pretty poor, both in the Premier League and Championship. I don’t see many in the Championship that’s going to bash the door down to get into the Premier League so they’re comfortable up there.

“But we’re talking about major decisions they should get right at this level.

“They are major decisions and that’s what you want referees to get right and at the moment, they’re getting most of them wrong.”

Warnock’s side suffered their fourth defeat in a row but an improved performance seemed to have been enough to earn a result, only for the controversy to derail the visitors.

And Warnock added: “It’s all well and good looking at the television afterwards. I wonder how they’ll feel it when they watch it back tonight?

“We’ve worked all week to get things right on the pitch but, although some of them are fulltime, I wonder what they’ll feel like when they see they’ve made a major error that’s really given them the game. I’d love to know what’s in their minds at night when they watch knowing that they’re wrong.

“It’s hard to take but we have to move on and think how lucky we are to be where we are in the table and hope correct decisions go for us.

“We’ve lost four on the trot now and three of them I don’t know how we’ve lost them. We were so far ahead. The first goal was like Sunday League and that’s our own fault, but I thought we played alright today in certain parts.

“We have a good group, hopefully we can bring one or two in and get one or two back and we can go again – and hopefully we can get over the disappointment and one or two of the dodgy decisions can go for us.”
