Feeney set to stay at Cardiff

-

CARDIFF City boss Neil Warnock says he expects Liam Feeney to stay at the club for the rest of the season, adding that he is also keen to bring in some new faces ahead of the visit of Sunderland in a fortnight’s time.

Feeney did not make the matchday squad for the trip to Queens Park Rangers on New Year’s Day, amid uncertainty surrounding his immediate future.

The winger’s short-term loan in South Wales expires this month, although Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has previously hinted that Feeney would be allowed to leave the club, potentially paving the way for an extended stay in the Welsh capital.

And while he admits he’s not held any concrete discussions about extending the 30-year-old’s stay, Warnock appears confident of getting a deal done, adding that Feeney’s absence at Loftus Road was purely due to footballing reasons.

He said: “I think he’ll be staying with us until the end of the season. I haven’t spoken to anyone up there.

“I wanted to put Jazz Richards on the bench. It was his first time back today. So I just thought just in case with the injury situation, I thought we might need Jazz rather than another wide player.”

“I don’t think we’ll be bringing in anyone before Saturday, but we are working on one or two deals. It’s more important to get someone in for the Sunderland game really.” joining him on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, Wilson’s contract runs out in the summer, and you would guess that the chances of him being offered a new deal are probably quite small. Then again, a new start could be what he needs at this stage of his career.
