Circus brings extreme to mainstream

The Circus of Horrors, The Grand Theatre, Swansea

-

ROLL UP! Roll up! The Circus of Horrors is coming to town. Or more specifically, The Grand Theatre in Swansea on Wednesday, January 17.

For the past 22 years the extraordinary show, pictured, has become the world leader in alternative circus, taking the extreme to the mainstream.

The madness began in the small town of Llandeilo, when in 1979, Dr (John) Haze left the circus he was brought up and “ran away” to form his first band, Flash Harry.

He said: “My mother who was Welsh married a former lion trainer, joined a circus and had me. My first sortie in

circus didn’t last long however when my Dad ran away and left us in a van in Wick, Scotland, I was only six months old at the time.” He then fused his passion for T-Rex and circus tricks to create The Circus of Horrors. First seen at the Glastonbury Festival in 1995, the performances blend horror and burlesque with bizarre and unbelievable acts. They were semi-finalists in Britain’s Got Talent in 2011. The brand new show, Voodoo, includes an amazing amalgamation of brave acts, a rock n’ roll soundscape and all performed with a forked tongue firmly in each cheek. Ticket prices range from £18.50 to £26.50 and can be purchased by calling the Swansea Grand Theatre box office on 01792 475715 or by booking tickets using their website at www.swansea.gov.uk/swanseagrandtheatre.
